NEW CDL APPLICANT CLASS

Dear Applicant,

This message is to inform you that a new 30-hour Louisiana School Bus Training Course for prospective CDL holders will be held on January 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, and 21 from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. @ the Vernon Parish Optional School Site. Attendance on all dates is required.

Program Requirements and Completion Steps are as Follows:

  1. Minimum age requirement: 21 years old
  2. Completion of a criminal background check
  3. Completion of a driving record check
  4. Successful completion of CDL written tests: General Knowledge, Passenger, School Bus, and Air Brakes (if applicable)
  5. Completion of 8 hours of driving and backing practice without students under the supervision of a Certified CDL Driver
  6. Completion of the CDL skills test (Pre-Trip Inspection, Backing Maneuvers, and Road Test)
  7. Visit to the DMV to obtain the CDL license
  8. Completion of 6 hours of driving with students - Under the supervision of a certified CDL Driver
  9. Submission of all required driving logs to the Vernon Parish Transportation Supervisor
